What are the benefits of hiring a doula?

Throughout human history, pregnant individuals and those giving birth have found solace in the support of their families and communities during the profound journey of bringing new life into the world. Healthcare professionals, including doctors and midwives, also play a crucial role in providing assistance and care to expectant individuals and their families. However, due to the demands of attending to multiple patients simultaneously, these dedicated clinicians may not always be able to offer undivided attention throughout the entire labor and delivery process. This is precisely where the invaluable presence of a doula comes into play.

A Doula happily will do:

Doulas bring forth evidence-based research and educational materials, empowering pregnant individuals, their support teams, and families to make informed decisions regarding their childbirth experience. They provide valuable recommendations for exercises and positions that offer comfort, and relief, and promote progress during labor and birth. Additionally, doulas offer unwavering support to the birthing parent, alleviating anxiety and uncertainty associated with this monumental life event.

Doulas DO NOT:

Doulas play a distinct role separate from that of clinicians. Our primary focus is on providing unwavering support and advocacy. Unlike medical professionals, doulas do not engage in clinical procedures such as vaginal exams or prescribing medications. We don't serve as intermediaries between the birthing parent and medical staff. Instead, our aim is to empower birthing individuals to voice their own needs and preferences. Only when requested and inappropriate situations do doulas speak on behalf of the birthing family.

“You are truly performing a labor of love.”
